Chebeague Island Inn

print
61 South Road
Chebeague Island, ME
(207) 846-5155

COST: $

This Greek Revival–style building—a leisurely 1 1/2-hour ferry ride from Portland, Maine—offers guests a trip back in time with simply styled, whitewashed rooms, cocktails on the veranda, and not a phone or a television in sight. Instead, guests can read by the large stone fireplace in the Great Room, play croquet on the lawn, or borrow one of the complimentary L.L. Bean bikes to explore the island. The dining room specializes in local cuisine—and by local, they really mean local. The seafood comes from island waters, and herbs and produce are procured from neighboring farms and the inn’s own kitchen garden. There is one caveat: of the 21 rooms, five share bathrooms, so if you’re seeking privacy (and no shower lines) be sure to request one en suite.
